Can you believe it, a recent study proves that hair dye is directly linked to causing cancer; a 30% increased risk for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. All of this risk, for the sake of vanity…. With this new information in hand, our legislators should be making plans to ban hair coloring; and perhaps any other vain pursuit that may have yet undetected negative health consequences. Furthermore, as citizens of the same planet, fellow brothers and sisters, we must shun all those that dye their hair and pursue anything potentially vain… as they are posing a burden to the health care system and themselves. If we don’t save them, who will?…

Cigarette Interventions

I know there are interventions for drug and alcohol addicts as well as people with eating and personality disorders, but I have not yet heard of Cigarette Interventions. While the tobacco industry is the only industry required to fund its own demise, advertising and public smoking are practically outlawed, and everyone knows that smokers are dirty, unhealthy, immoral people, the next logical step is to physically and emotionally pressure them into quitting: Cigarette Interventions are the way of the future. I would even go one step further and urge the FDA to start funding and training and army of Federal Cigarette Intervention Agents (FCIA). The FCIA could act like ‘child welfare’ agents and come to the homes and workplaces of smokers to assess (harass) their current health, risk, and try and convince them to quit. Currently 20% of the US populations still smokes, so obviously more aggressive methods will be required to truly snuff out smokers. If the government will not protect us from smokers, who will?…..

Legislative Rescue to Retail Deaths

Councilman James F. Gennaro (D) Queens, NY must have read this blog and worked around the clock to present his “Door Buster” legislation – as reported today on Fox News. Councilman Gennaro has proposed legislation that will require stores and malls to provide more security. He said, ” People should not have to go to work and end up giving their life for something that is so, so preventable.”

Councilman, your desire and resolve to protect the citizenry is commendable. Your profound intellectual ability to produce this legislative idea within days of such a travesty is visionary. Some people might argue that you are placating the public with feel-good, reactionary laws which burden businesses unnecessarily, but I will disagree. I sincerely doubt that you just wanted to get yourself on TV, but rather I imagine you just couldn’t live with yourself another day if you did not do something to prevent the tragic circumstances that occurred on ‘black friday’. I can’t believe we have lived all these years without such consumer protections in place. I’m sure no one who is involved in the security industry will complain…. and your constituents now know what a genuine humanitarian you are.

Retail Sales = Death

On ‘Black Friday’ a Walmart worker was trampled to death in Long Island, NY and two people were shot to death in a Toys ‘R’ Us store; which strikes me as proof that more laws are needed to regulate retail sales. Anything our legislators can do to protect consumers and employees must be justifiable. No matter what individual freedoms we must restrict, I believe it is worth it if it saves just one life. Had we stricter standards in place today, there would be at least one more living American.

I suggest we pass federal laws (OSHA, FDA, Consumer Bureau) requiring consumers to stand in a single file line when visiting stores with sales. And, they must continue to shop in single file lines while inside the stores, and while exiting. This way there will be order and safety. Another excellent idea to protect people’s safety would be to limit the amount of discounting which is allowed by law – I say 10% maximum discount. Clearly, big sales create consumer hysteria, so there should be ‘caps’ on the maximum amount of discounting that is legal. This way, consumers will not be worked into a frenzy to save money, and more lives will be saved. But this is just the start… I hope our legislators are listening and act soon, before another citizen is injured or killed!!! If is saves one life it is worth it.
